🇺🇦 SPIKE SPOT INDEX UKRAINE | Weekly Commodity & Logistics Market

Part I. Logistics

Main export signals for the period:

1. Ukrainian grain exports sustained a throughput exceeding 36 million tonnes during the reporting week, reflecting ongoing strong export activity amid the harvest season.

2. Rail shipments of grain showed a significant increase at western border crossings, with daily wagon transfers rising notably to Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary.

3. Road transport maintained a critical role in grain and oilseed exports, particularly at western border points such as Chop, where corn and soybean prices remained stable.

4. Danube river ports contributed to export capacity, though volumes were limited by infrastructure constraints and remained below peak potential.

🚚 ROAD TRANSPORT:

Road crossings at Chop and other western border points exhibited steady throughput with key commodities including grains and oilseeds directed primarily toward EU markets.

Local FCA Chop prices for corn and soybeans held steady, indicating balanced supply and demand dynamics in road transport corridors.

Logistics chains adapted to localized bottlenecks, ensuring continued export flow and complementing rail and port operations.

The strategic importance of road transport persists in mitigating pressure on rail networks and ports.

🚝 RAIL TRANSPORT:

Rail grain shipments increased by approximately 18% year-to-date, with average daily wagon volumes rising to 22.3 wagons to Poland, 25.4 to Slovakia, and 53.6 to Hungary.

Rail flows split between direct deliveries to Black Sea ports and transfers at border points for onward transport.

Rail remains a vital export channel balancing port congestion and providing access to diversified markets.

⚠️ Some bottlenecks continue at border crossings, but infrastructure upgrades are improving wagon handling efficiency.

🚧 BORDER DIRECTION:

Wagon transfer and accumulation intensified at major western border points including Chop, with daily grain wagon transfers slightly reduced compared to the previous week but overall throughput stable.

Infrastructure improvements at western borders contributed to smoother grain wagon handling and reduced delays.

⚓️ PORT DIRECTION:

Ports of the Greater Odesa region handled an average of 968 grain wagons unloaded daily, a slight decrease from the previous week.

The number of grain wagons moving toward Odesa ports declined to 4,639 wagons, while daily loading on the rail network toward these ports increased to 833 wagons per day.

Danube river ports saw a reduction in grain wagons moving toward them to 138 wagons, with daily unloading rates around 41 wagons per day.

Danube ports continue to provide supplementary export capacity, though volumes remain constrained by infrastructure limits.
